Calamari

Listening to the radio recently, I learned a new word.  “Bung.”  Sounds awful but I knew it as a cork in a barrel.   Then I heard it used rather differently…

I am not a fan of eating odd parts of animals or odd animals at all.  True, I define what is odd.  I am Lord and Sovereign of all that I eat and I declare foods to be good and evil.  McDonald’s fries…good!  Cow liver…ugh (and I suspect… evil!)  I don’t like seafood.  I’ve tried it and rather consistently dislike almost all of it.  I like tuna but then we practically sanitize it.  Yes, I live in Alaska where seafood is King of foods.  No, I don’t want to move to Nebraska.  I wish there was a “hamburger” fish or the wild “hamburger” deer and then I might like hunting and fishing more.

Now don’t try and tell me that you can disguise a fish or wild game to taste like hamburger.  Psychologically, it’s not the same.  Up here, plenty of people will claim to be able to do it with moose.  Perhaps they can but I am saying that it is just not the same even so.  Do you doubt me?  Read on…

Do you like Calamari?  Those of you with gourmet tastes probably do,  seasoned with garlic,  fried briefly and coated in butter. Comes out looking like a deep fried onion ring.  With the right amount of lemon, Calamari is said to be tasty.  Seafood again.  Ugh.  It is amusing to me how foods are described in the best possible terms to disguise what they are.  It’s a dead squid, sliced up, dipped in the sauce of your choice.  “Would you like an appetizer?”  “Yes, I’ll take a plate of your dead, fried, sliced squid please with a side of lemon.”

Do you like Calamari?  I have bad news.  If the bung or cecum of a dead pig is fried just right and sliced appropriately, you cannot tell the difference between the appearance or taste of a plate of such pig from Calamari.  It is being done somewhere by some restaurant and you will never know.  It is “imitation” Calamari.  Do you now wonder what precisely is the bung or cecum?  For that you must use the sage of mankind “google.”  Google it.  Then take a closer look at your Calamari…

In the same way, there are imitations of God and truth in this world that have successfully passed themselves off as indisputable.  There are religions everywhere.  Even the atheists have theirs which will be to worship themselves or the intellect of man.  It has been said, that since I own an iPhone © I therefore heartily support the worship of the creative intellect of mankind as displayed in his marvelous science.  Nah.  They were saying that in the 1800’s too and we laugh at their “science” now.  Man is smart but he is not that smart.

We would never know God unless He revealed Himself in such a manner that we can perceive and somewhat understand Him.  Yet, we look at what He has done and our response is to magnify ourselves?  We are as odd a people as there can be.  Proof will be those who continue to eat Calamari after reading this.  Odd people, all.

Psalm 8:3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained;
4) What is man that You take thought of him,
And the son of man that You care for him? (NASB)

The arrogance of man in light of this is incredible to consider.  Here is mankind celebrating himself after viewing His creative power, which God knows is our inclination, and yet the Psalm goes on to say

5) Yet You have made him a little lower than God,
And You crown him with glory and majesty!
6) You make him to rule over the works of Your hands;
You have put all things under his feet,

Yes, He has made us so that we can invent things like the iPhone © but let’s not get a big head about it.  After all, we eat pig bung.

  1. Hah! So true! But, if we were to see some of the parts being ingested every time we eat hotdogs, we may be similarly humbled! 🙂 Thanks for this. It has started my day with a chuckle.
